Get a map.

In this February post, Seth Godin noted that there are 50 states. (see map.)

And if you have a typical e-commerce site, this usually means that your customers have to pull down a list of 50 states, and waste their time scrolling around to find the state of their choosing.

Seth mentioned that some bad ideas stick around forever. But they don’t…

I emailed Seth’s blog to a client who had a drop-down list of 50 states, and he prompty changed it to a very good-looking map. It’s easy to use. It’s more customer friendly, and it graphically pulls together the look and feel of the site.

So while some bad ideas may seem to stick around forever, many times they don’t. All it takes is someone like Seth Godin to point out the error of our ways so that we can make a change!

But we won’t rest just yet. We’re still tracking the value of the change….by looking at our navigation and statistics, and asking long time customers about how they feel.

Change may be good, but it still has to be measured!
