Listless…
When a friend asked what I did over the long holiday weekend, I said,
“Nothing much. You know. I had a nice time, but didn’t do much.”
And when I said it, I really thought I was telling her the truth.
Turns out, I lied.
When I went back and actually did a laundry list of all the stuff I actually did, I wondered how I managed to do it all! I’m pretty sure I broke some laws of physics to manage it.
I know that organization experts tell us to write down our “to do” lists, and then cross them off one by one when we start accomplishing our tasks.
But since it was my holiday, I made no lists. My plan, in essense, was to goof off and do nothing. No list required for that!
Yet somehow, I managed to get more done without a list of tasks looming before me. Without measurement, I was able to get an impossible amount of tasks accomplished.
I think I’ll try that approach all summer long. Let a day go by, listless. Indeed, let the whole summer go by, listless.
Tally up the actual activities and progress the next day. See how much gets done without the artificial constructs of time. Free up the mind. Free up the body and soul.
Be listless.
