Yahoo Adsense? About the New Ad Program…

Yahoo! is Beta testing their knock-off of Google Adsense. It’s called the Yahoo! Publisher Network. Basically, it’s the same story as Google’s very popular Adsense program: you have a site, you paste in some code, and Yahoo! will run its text based ads on your site. You get paid on click-throughs.

Sound familiar?

It’s about time. Google’s been very successful with its Adsense program for over 2 years now: it’s about time Yahoo gave them some decent competition for this service. If there is no price setting or collusion between the two search engine giants, this competition might prove to be good for us small publishers — we might see a greater percentage of the pay-outs. And we might see the two major engines working their alogyrhythms to deliver a higher degree of search engine and ad relevancy.

Yahoo! is in beta test only right now, which means that they are only testing the publisher program with a smaller number of hand-picked publishers. (I’m happy to report that I’m one of them, but I’ve only been testing for a few pages for a few days. So far, so good: easy to use, at least.)

In a month or so, I’ll have more data: but for now, let the beta testing begin!
