The funny truth about humor…
A humorous direct marketing ad is generally ineffective at achieving immediate sales.
Keep in mind: funny ads may help with branding. (But they’d better be really, truly, ha-ha, laugh-out-loud funny…to your market niche.)
So if you’re going to try to be funny, you better know your audience very well. Funny is hard work. It’s risky. And it’s very hard to do well.
Funny commercials often win lots of awards in advertising circles. But while ad awards feed the ego of the ad agency, winning those awards will not help you feed your family.
Remember well the famous last words: “Dying is easy: comedy is hard.”
