Site Submission to Google
I still get this question about site submission:
How often should I submit my site to Google to get ranked well?
Answer: You do not really need to submit your site to Google. If you feel you absolutely must, do it just once.
Then forget about it.
Pecking at the Google “submit” button like a nervous pigeon is a waste of time. Here’s why:
Google’s spiders are currently crawling all over the web. If there is at least one inbound link from another site that Google has already indexed, the spiders will come visit your site.
After that, you will want to keep the spiders coming back. You will want them to crawl deeper and deeper within your site, carefully indexing more pages and including everything they read. For that to happen, you need to practice the Google webmaster guidelines.
Notice that Google Guidelines don’t mention anything about repeatedly submitting to get the spiders to keep coming back. Submit once, and you are done. Instead of constantly submitting every time you change something at your site — why not put your energy and attention on building website content that the spiders will love….or focus on getting quality inbound links into your site?
Here’s the bottom line:
Follow the guidelines. If you absolutely feel that you MUST submit to Google, do it just once. It will take about 30 seconds of your time, so no huge harm done.
Then let it go. Stop submitting. And concentrate on building fabulous content and getting inbound links. Ultimately, those are the only two activities that will make your site rank well.
