Blogger out of Beta.

Yesterday, Blogger forced me to upgrade to new Blogger at my Maniactive blog site.
I pushed a button, and in a few moments, my blog platform switched from Old Blogger to New Blogger. And that’s for transferring over 300 posts. Pretty fast!
But I had a few issues with commenting this morning. I posted one comment, but two […]

Better Listings On Google

Forgive me. I either heard or read a new acronym for “blog” this week -
Better Listings On Google.
Clever!
But unfortunately, I cannot source it.
Anybody know where this wise acronym originated?
To whom should we give the credit?

Getting on Oprah is not a publicity plan.

I have a client who seems obsessed with getting on Oprah.
For the past few months, she has brought up “how to get on Oprah” as if it were the cornerstone tactic in her overall publicity strategy.
However, merely “getting on Oprah” is a terrible goal.
And as far as dreams go, it is extremely limited.
Dream bigger. There’s […]

How to deal with delusional designers

The advertising business is filled with failing creative types. It is where they go to earn some cash while they gripe to other failed creatives about how the public does not yet understand their brilliance.
They remind us of the delusional American Idol contestants: the ones who believe they are wonderful, when clearly, they are not. And when the judges […]

Put your site on a diet for 3 BIG FAT advantages!

If you have some big fat web pages (over 40k), put them on a diet today!
Make sure you get your web pages slim, skinny, and svelte! You will enjoy three major benefits right away.
Here’s the backstory:
I talked to a client today about significantly slimming down one of their enormous html pages (over 150K).
Hey, it happens. Those […]

Be Interesting.

I am leading a presentation about how to quickly add more interactivity to your company website with “done-in-a-day” projects. Nothing big and heavy, mind you. This is a checklist of some of the small stuff — little tweaks, if you will. And this is a general business audience.
Anyway, one bullet point item was adding a “Bookmark” […]

How Valid Are You?

Every so often, I check my validation at W3C.
Today, I am valid. Hurrah!

Usually, I am not.
As I constantly add new content to my site, it is all too easy to break some small markup validation rule. Just one wrong attribute in one too-hasty post… and my blog starts to get funkier-looking with every passing day.So when […]

Conversation Marketing: The Book

Ian Lurie takes a page from the Seth Godin playbook and puts his smashing new book Conversation Marketing: Internet Marketing Strategies online. For free.
Back in 2000 or 2001, I remember reading Seth Godin’s Spreading the Idea Virus. It was the first time I downloaded a free book to my Handspring PDA.
This free e-book went on to […]

The Number One Conversation Marketing Killer…

My friends had a conversation about conversation (hah!) over sushi and cocktails the other night… and one of our discussion points was “what kills a conversation?”
Our number one answer?
“Not listening”.
If your online marketing endeavors include “conversation marketing” — make sure that you truly listen to your audience.
Yes, this means reviewing your metrics to find out […]

Help Eliminate We-We Websites!

We-we websites (we do this, we do that, etc.) are conversation crushers for corporations.Yet they persist.
So I need your help. Please post your comments online if you can answer this question…
I am looking for insight on how to respectfully convince ego-driven website owners to convert to a conversation-based marketing approach. Can it even be done?
It’s been […]
