What books DON’T you like?

Amazon.com is v. good at telling you that if you like such-and-such a book, that you’ll just LOVE a book they recommend in a related category. And yes, they’ve upped my orders more than once by making a timely suggestion (just when I’m in the mood to buy a book and my credit card is out…thanks, Amazon!)

How about you? How well do you make your recommendation…and how is your timing?

And for a fascinating look at the unsuggestion, the anti-recommendation: visit Library Thing. They have a switch on the recommendation concept — if you like this book, you’ll just HATE these books! For example, if you like spiritual or evangelical books like Jonathan Livingston Seagull by pilot adventurer and new age writer Richard Bach, chances are that you’ll hate the graphic V for vendetta by Alan Moore or the vapid Confessions of a shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella.

I guess I must be eclectic. Many of the books I’m supposed to Hate with a captial H — actually don’t mind so much.

How ’bout you?
