Be Interesting.

I am leading a presentation about how to quickly add more interactivity to your company website with “done-in-a-day” projects. Nothing big and heavy, mind you. This is a checklist of some of the small stuff — little tweaks, if you will. And this is a general business audience.

Anyway, one bullet point item was adding a “Bookmark” or “Email a friend” script. That is when a woman raises her hand and essentially asks,

“Why would we do either of those things when nothing at our site is fundamentally interesting?”

That question sort of blew my mind. But the answer, in short, is this:

If nothing at your site is fundamentally interesting, fix that first. And that is not typically a “done-in-a-day” kind of project.

Seriously: if your website is not “fundamentally interesting”, merely adding a bunch of programming tweaks ain’t gonna make it any better!
