Take the Twitter Challenge!

Take the Twitter Challenge: For the entire month of August 2007, I am picking “Twitter” as my social media experiment. The challenge: I will blog about my experience with Twitter right here on the Battractive Blog! You can learn from my Twitter mistakes, failures, and successes… whatever happens, happens. I’ll blog about my interaction with Twitter (and the Twitterati) on a fairly regular basis this month, so stay tuned!
Twitter and Me: The Background…Twitter, as you may have read, is a social media site that simply asks, “what are you doing?” And Twitter is all the rage right now. So at sporadic intervals throughout August, I am committing to Twittering in short, frantic bursts of 140 characters or less. After all, that’s all anyone can do in Twitter: write short, poignant, pithy in-the-moment salvos. So far: I signed up for my free account at Twitter yesterday. I made a few Twitter posts yesterday to test, and about 20 today to get the hang of the thing. I don’t suspect I’ll Future-Twit to that alarming extent!
My August Commitment to Twitter. Instead, I will commit to making at least 70 Twitter posts this month. So far, I have two “followers” - that’s Twitterspeak for people who “follow” my outbursts. Remarkable. I’ve also elected to “follow” two others, and will actively pursue following the remarks of other interesting twits out there.
Why would anyone be interested in my Twittering? Hard to say. What if my random thoughts are entertaining or thought provoking? What if it gives me another avenue to reach people…or to inform or persuade? Hey, presidential candidates are Twittering — and so are some of our favorite geeky celebrities…
But what if no one is interested in my Twittering? So what? It’s free, and I have little to lose. Even if I gain no marketing benefit, consider these 2 questions: What if Twitter gives birth to a new art form? What if Twitter merely reminds me to merely to meditate briefly on being fully present? By making us Twitterers pause to contemplate — “what are you doing right now?” — Twitter may become a new type of Zen or Existential performance art. Can Twittering also provide us with much-needed focus and re-alignment in our frantic, multi-tasking world? Hmmmm…experience comes before knowledge, so let’s find out!
Take Your Own Twitter Challenge: You are welcome (and encouraged!) to follow along with my August Twitter Experience…visit my Maniactive Twitter Page. (Yep, that’s me, Laura Bergells, AKA Maniactive.) Join the fun and follow along — let’s learn something new together!
Teach me, Twitterers! And if you are an experienced Twit, I’d love to hear from you! Give me your words of advice, your wisdom: help us un-initiated learn, oh mighty Twit-Masters!

Really late on this one, but I’ve been doing a similar “Twitter challenge” myself over the last ten days and it’s been quite an eye-opener.
Here in the UK Twitter has nowhere near the same penetration as in the US so I don’t feel like as much of a Luddite as I should… anyway, I wanted to post an inane remark to the effect that I guess from looking at your Twitter page that the experiment proved to be a success!
