Are Dark E-Backgrounds More Eco-Friendly?

Dark Backgrounds Green

My post on Black Google discussed how black web backgrounds (and TV and PowerPoint, as well) are better for the environment, because they help save electricity. Darker colors displayed on CRTs use less wattage.

Darker web and other e-backgrounds are also easier on the eyes, as well. The black-on-white web standard is a holdover from Ye Olde Print Days…so Guttenberg of us.

But, until I can re-design my sites — I can always pick my own colors in my browser. I don’t have to use the colors the web designer picked out for me! Here’s how:

In Firefox, go to:

Here, you can select any background and text colors you like. I chose dark grey, beigh text, and light blue and light red links. Pretty! And soothing!

In Internet Explorer, go to:

You will also need to go to:

Then check “Ignore colors specified on webpages” — and click OK twice.

Get the colors you want! Save your eyes…and help make the world a greener place?

Thanks to Blogger Ben for this handy reminder!
