An interesting observation!
I just wonder whether people would be so sensitized to others’ body smells if it hadn’t been for the Odo-Ro-No ‘BO’ advertising campaign that started in the 1920s and which, I understand, was one of the most successful ever. (see http://chnm.gmu.edu/sidelights/whoinventedbo.php)
I don’t know whether it’s in the States, but I’m amused to see in the UK now a ‘bio-yoghurt’ company trying to sensitize us all in their TV adverts to a ‘bloated feeling’ which, surely, many people had never noticed before, but which their product helps to ‘cure’!
