Do You Make These Blog Mistakes?
As long as I’m ranting about web usability and blogs today, let me ask you:
Which of these Top 10 blog mistakes do you make?
Or is ten not enough?
What about:
The Top 77 Mistakes New Bloggers Make?
Too many?
Too confusing?
How about just the #1 Mistake?
The Alarming Truth About Blog Mistakes: Do a Google search for “Blog Mistakes”, and you’re going to find over 16 million pages.
That’s a lot of mistakes to make!
Blogging is a new medium. We’re all making plenty of mistakes, every day. Everyone’s an expert — which means that no one’s an expert.
So what are you supposed to do?
Your best!
Here’s my take on the top 3 mistakes:
Scan the headlines. Look for commonalities among all the advice. For example, when the top 10 sites for “blog mistakes” ranked by Google all pretty much concede that not focusing on your blog post headline is a huge mistake, you’ll want to take a note of it. Headlines must be important. So you’ll want to learn how to write compelling headlines. Knowing English isn’t enough — there’s an art to writing headlines.
Understand anchor text. Everybody concedes that linking out is important. And not using appropriate anchor text in your outbound links is a deadly sin. So you’ll want to understand what anchor text is and how to link out to others…and to yourself.
Experience comes before knowledge. Go ahead and make some mistakes. In fact, make plenty. You learn from your mistakes.
And then, by all means, blog about your mistakes.
After all, everyone else is!

Hi Laura,
Thanks very much for the link to my post. I’m still making mistakes, but it’s the fastest way to learn. Of course it’s always good to get pointers from others, hence my offering.
I hope all’s well.
