Why Use Twitter for Event Management?
Let’s say you’re running an event. A Web 2.0 conference, perhaps.
Before the conference…Ask attendees to “follow” the official conference Twitter page. The conference coordinator can post conference updates and specials. This helps raise awareness and excitement for the conference, pre-event.
At the conference…When stuff changes (because “stuff happens” all the time at conferences — a speaker is late. A room changes at the last minute. A panel decides to have a meet-up at a local bar. You know. Stuff.) The conference coordinator uses Twitter to let followers know when late-breaking stuff happens.
After the conference…And when, say, a couple of hundred conference attendees are following, guess what? The rest of the world that isn’t attending the conference can feel the excitement. You have a running public record of the topics, a place to point the public to share notes, slides, videos…and possibly gain publicity for next year’s event.
Yep, Twitter can be useful for event management — and marketing. Will it work for you?
