Embedding Google Calendars in Your Website

SaugatuckTwo of my fave clients — Pat & Pam Murphy — maintain a Google calendar, jam-packed with local Saugatuck events. A husband-and-wife real estate team in the Saugatuck/Douglas, Michigan area –Pam and Pat are using social media to become (in their own way) what Seth Godin might call “the mayors of their own zip code.”

You want to know what’s going on in Douglas or Saugatuck, Michigan? You go to Pam Murphy’s Google Calendar of Saugatuck Events, which they embed on their site. You can keep coming back to Pat and Pam’s site, or just subscribe to the calendar in your own Google Calendar account. Easy!

This kind of Google calendar is handy, and it’s useful! Just about everyone in West Michigan goes to Saugatuck at one time or another: when we subscribe to Pat and Pam’s Google Calendar, we know at a glance what’s going on. Thanks, guys!

Simple, but effective marketing! How might you use an application like Google Calendar at your site to position your organization as a hub for useful information?

PS — How to Embed your Google Calendar in Joomla! Got a call yesterday from a woman who is using Joomla! and wants to embed a Google Calendar on her school’s site — to post time and dates for athletic events. If you’re using Joomla! and want to embed a Google Calendar, here’s a quick (under 3 minute) Jing video that shows you exactly how!
