LinkedIn Reveals a Hideous New Look

LinkedIn has a new look.
It’s awful.
On so many levels. Here are just three:
Irrelevant news feeds. First, I am greeted with a “News” section that I cannot get rid of. The “News” features headlines from a company I haven’t worked with in 8 years. It’s not relevant to me. And it’s not why I use LinkedIn.
Bad ads [...]

Watch Your Social Media Mouth!

In all innocence, I asked the ad agency creative director: “Do you Twitter?”
If he did, I intended to follow…
“I twitter efficiently,” he barked sharply, then turned away.
Oh dear. Didn’t mean to offend.
But honestly, the occasion seemed to warrant casual, social media lingo.
After all, the creative director was wrapping up a brief talk about using [...]

Beware of Self Congratulatory Web Copy

Imagine a well-dressed, sophisticated professional woman enjoying a glass of fine wine in her favorite four-star restaurant.
A nice-looking, well-groomed young man approaches her and says,
Hello. I’m a hot stud.
Now, what chance do you reckon this young man has with successfully continuing the conversation?
I ask you this because when I see companies and people with self-congratulatory names, [...]

The Veg-O-Matic for Twittering FaceBook Feeds

Yesterday, I mentioned that using Twitterfeed was like Veg-O-Matic for Twitter. Instead of veggies, you pop RSS feeds into Twitterfeed, and voila! Your feeds are automatically sliced and diced into Twitter! Set it and fuhgettaboutit!
But what about auto-publishing your FaceBook status on Twitter? This shouldn’t be hard — after all, Facebook has an RSS feed.
The [...]

Facebook Fridays…

What is the best day for social networking? Seems I see more action on Fridays. Big surprise?
The holidays also seemed to bring about more friending at FaceBook. And is it just me, or did Twittering go to an all-time high between Christmas and New Year’s?
Here’s the test: if you want to add me as a friend on FaceBook, [...]

It’s Like a Veg-O-Matic for Twitter…

I added two of my blog feeds to TwitterFeed today. That way, whenever I post, Twitter is instantly updated.
Twitterfeed is something of a Ron Popeil Veg-O-Matic “set it and forget it” play. Except instead of entering vegetables, you enter RSS feeds into Twitterfeed. Twitterfeed slices and dices any feed you care to enter, and then updates them [...]

The Truth About Twitter: Everybody Lies

In his internet marketing blog, Andy Beard writes a post titled Twitter is unethical for business use. His main beef?
It seems that many businesses use Twitter for reasons other than its stated purpose of answering the question,
“What are you doing?”
The Beard Argument. Using Twitter for anything other than literal truth might be ethical — [...]

Why Use Twitter for Event Management?

Let’s say you’re running an event. A Web 2.0 conference, perhaps.
Before the conference…Ask attendees to “follow” the official conference Twitter page. The conference coordinator can post conference updates and specials. This helps raise awareness and excitement for the conference, pre-event.
At the conference…When stuff changes (because “stuff happens” all the time at conferences — a speaker [...]

Using Jott to Twitter and Blog…

Jott.com rocks.
I have been using this free service to send email messages to clients, colleagues, and friends while I am on the road. I simply:

Dial the Jott toll-free number.
It asks, “who do you want to Jott?”
I say the name of a person whose contact info I have uploaded to Jott from Outlook.
I speak a 30 [...]
